15 Day River Cruise From Amsterdam - Budapest

DAY 1 ::
Amsterdam

Welcome to Amsterdam, a fascinating 700 year old city of picturesque canals, world class museums, theaters and cafés. This afternoon, a warm welcome awaits you from your crew as you board your luxury Scenic Tours “Space-Ship”.

DAY 2 ::
Amsterdam

Today choose from: (1) an exploration of Amsterdam’s maze of quaint canals lined with stately buildings and elaborately decorated residences on a sightseeing cruise aboard a glass top canal boat; (2) a guided bicycle tour of Amsterdam (limited availability); or (3) a visit to Zaanse Schans for windmills and Dutch cheese. Enjoy the Captain’s welcome dinner this evening.

DAY 3 ::
Cologne – Coblenz

Founded by the Romans, Cologne is one of Germany’s oldest cities. Towering cathedral spires, cultural treasures, superb museums and galleries all reflect its 2,000 years of history. Join your guide this afternoon and explore the Old Town with its beautiful squares and historic monuments before ending the tour with a tasting of Cologne’s locally brewed specialty beer ‘Kölsch’. This evening you can explore the 2,000-year-old town of Coblenz, situated on the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle Rivers.

DAY 4 ::
Rhine Gorge – Rüdesheim

Today’s cruising will be a highlight of your trip, as we cruise through the spectacular Rhine Gorge. Keep your camera at the ready as around every bend there are stunning vistas of  castles perched above steep vine-covered slopes. We’ll also pass the famous Lorelei Rock where sailors are said to have been lured to their doom onto treacherous rocks by enchanted temptresses. In the afternoon we arrive at Rüdesheim, one of Germany’s most visited towns due to its many attractions, where we board the ‘Winzerexpress’ mini train for a guided visit of Siegfried’s Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum. We then take a cable car for the trip to the Niederwald Monument.

DAY 5 ::
Wertheim

Known for its glassworks, Franconian wine and friendly people, enjoy time today exploring this quaint medieval village with its half-timbered houses and cobblestoned streets.

DAY 6 ::
Würzburg

Today choose from: (1) guided walking tour of Würzburg and the magnificent Prince Bishop’s Residenz Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site acclaimed for its baroque architecture and manicured gardens; or (2) excursion down the Romantic Road to Rothenburg, considered the best preserved medieval city in Europe. Here the town walls with their fortified battlements form a protective circle around the precious relics of bygone ages.

DAY 7 ::
Bamberg

Explore Bamberg with your guide today. Boasting one of Europe’s largest intact medieval centers, Bamberg is bursting with character and charm. At the center of the town is the largest preserved old quarter in Europe. SCENICENRICH Enjoy beer tasting at the Zehnthaus, a private brewery established in 1533, where we are greeted by the cellar master and taken to an underground vault to sample his selection of brews.

DAY 8 ::
Nuremberg

Today we explore this lively city with a medieval feel resulting from 950 years of history. We commence with a guided tour of the old town and see the Justice Palace and Imperial Castle. We then dedicate time to the history of WWII with a visit to the Nuremberg Rallies and Trial sites. This afternoon enjoy time at leisure in Nuremberg.

DAY 9 ::
Regensburg

Dating back to settlement in 500 B.C., Regensburg is one of Germany’s finest preserved cities and its architectural gems are testament to its long history and past grandeur. During our guided walking tour we get to see the Old Chapel and visit Thurn und Taxis Castle as well as the medieval stone bridge across the Danube for a view of the cityscape.

DAY 10 ::
Passau – Linz

Today choose from: (1) a guided tour of the graceful arcades and cobblestone streets of Passau; or (2) visit Salzburg, setting for ‘The Sound of Music’ and birthplace of Mozart; or (3) a full day excursion to southern Bohemia to explore the beautiful medieval town of Cesky Krumlov.

DAY 11 ::
Melk – Dürnstein – Vienna

Discover the magnificent Benedictine Abbey of Melk, with its ornate gold leaf walls, 640ft Imperial Corridor and spectacular fresco ceilings on our guided tour of the city.During our visit inside the Abbey an exclusive organ recital has been arranged. Your ship sails through the spectacular Wachau Valley to picturesque Dürnstein, one of the most enchanting villages of the Wachau wine region, where you will have free time to explore at your leisure. This is the site of the castle where Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned after returning from the crusades in the 12th century. This evening we arrive in Vienna. 

DAY 12 ::
Vienna

This morning we explore the famous sights of Vienna, including the Ringstrasse and the Hofburg Palace. Whether it’s strolling Vienna’s famous shopping street ‘Kärtnerstrasse’ or visiting one of the many museums on offer, lose yourself in the marvel of Vienna with an opportunity to explore this magnificent city on your own. Your Cruise Director is on hand to enhance your experience and help you make the most of your time in this history steeped Austrian capital. This evening enjoy a glass of Austrian ‘Sekt’ at the majestic Palais Liechtenstein, followed by a private Viennese concert featuring the music of Strauss and Mozart.

DAY 13 ::
Vienna

This afternoon choose from: (1) a guided tour of Schönbrunn Palace, the former summer residence of the imperial family, considered one of Europe’s most beautiful baroque palaces; or (2) visit the Opera House before enjoying coffee and cake in a famous Viennese cafe: or (3) guided excursion to the Slovakian capital of Bratislava, set on the crossroads of ancient trade routes in the heart of Europe. 

DAY 14 ::
Budapest

On the embankment of the Danube, Budapest is one of Eastern Europe’s most ancient cities. Enjoy a guided tour of the city sights including Heroes’ Square, Matthias Church, Fisherman’s Bastion, the medieval town on Castle Hill and the Chain Bridge, linking Buda and Pest. This evening, be entertained by folklore music on board prior to dinner.

DAY 15 ::
Budapest

After breakfast this morning it’s time to bid farewell to your fellow passengers and disembark the ship for your transfer* to the airport.
